Sorry I havent been around much. When I get home I just have no energy or desire to be online and when Im at work its so crazy busy that I dont have time be online . Summer season is certainly in full swing for those of us in the hospitality/tourism field.
Polar asked on her Friday questions if anyone has any pet peeves. Well, the state of Maine just hit a nerve with me this week! Ok, so this is the state known as "vacationland." Right now my brain is on overload so forgive me if I cannot quote accurately- but tourism I believe is this state's largest source of income. So, in light of the gas price problem, can someone please explain to me WHY the Maine Turnpike Authority has decided to start MAJOR construstion on LARGE portions of BOTH I-95 and 295?!?!!
The good news...
Hubby and I went to see a fireworks display last weekend in Scarborough, ME for their 350th Anniversary Celebration. What an awesome display! I actually got some really cool pics and when I permitted a moment of time I will try to post some Oh, and in 2 weeks hubby and I leave for a 4 day get-a-way in CT with one of our friends. We will be attending the anime convention, going to see the Titanic exhibit and to see the Carosel Museum. So, good times are still to come
I have to run for now but I will leave you with a song. I dont really like the artist anymore but the lyrics are good and a good reminder. So, here is Carrie Underwood with "So Small." (I actually like this video more than the one she made!)
Hiya Polly!! Ummmm sorry I provoked a peeve! I hear ya about being tired to go on line especially when it is summer and nice outside, I tend to not be on the box much either. It usually picks up more in the winter.
Sweetie sorry that the tourist season is rough on ya sometimes. People are crazy and they don't think about anyone else but themselves sometimes. Here's hoping you have a better week and things will smooth along splendidly!

Sorry you're having a rough season again. As for the road construction, it always seems they pick the worst/busiest places at the worst times. I have no idea why.

Note to self: Plan no trips that take your near or around the Portland area!!!!!
Hi Polly!!!! You are right. Construction is a RIDICULOUS notion and shouldn't happen around the summertime because of the tourist season here in the "Vacation State" (which makes me laugh even harder seeing as several rest areas have been closed down.. yeah.. we're REAL accommodating....) and it's significant impact on Maine. Fall... tourism slows down but there's still a lot of it going on. Winter... well... enough said?? And spring... it's all rain. I suppose maybe some could construction could get done, but... I know that some states allow night time construction to help keep traffic moving better during the day. I don't know why they don't do it here!!!
I bet you are SO looking forward towards getting away for a bit. When I was younger I enjoyed anime. I don't enjoy shows like Pokemon or Dragonball Z. And unfortunately I can't think of the ones I used to watch. Occassionally I might find some interesting episodes of some random anime show on youtube, but that's the extent of anime in my life these days. Hope you have a great time!!!!

I don't have a clue why those in charge of making such decisions choose the busiest time of year...Georgia(my next door neighbor) has the same kind of knuckle heads.

Actually, we do have some night time construction in the area that I work. Its just frustrating to have so much going on at one time. I know it has to get done sometime but maybe complete one section before starting on another

I cant wait to get away! The conference is actually more for hubby. He is really into anime and he also draws his own. (he has a website) I just go because I love to travel. This is only the 2nd one I have ever gone to. The first one was this past Dec in NYC. Now THAT was fun! There is actually a lot more to anime than Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, etc. Have you ever seen KiKi's Delivery Service? That is one of my favorites.
Well, time to get back to work. If I dont catch up with you before... Have a great weekend!

"Ummmm sorry I provoked a peeve!"
You silly bear! You didnt provoke the pet peeve. You just asked what pet peeves everyone has and I thought of that last night when people were... well, acting stupid!

Oh, its okay. Im not really upset. I just like to vent steam somewhere and a blog seems as good a place as any for my crazed, sarcastic thoughts! I do wish some people would put a little more thought into their actions and actually... oh yeah, Im gonna go there... LISTEN when I answer them! Here is an example. If you call to book a room or even if you just walk in the hotel and ask about a room and the desk clerk tells you they are sold out PLEASE do not continue to ask for a room. (ie: dont say, "are you sure?" "are you really, really sure?" "not even just one room?" "just a small room for a couple hours?") I have actually told a few people who lack listening skills that we ARE in fact a business and we do like to make money so when I say we are sold out, I mean it. It happens. A hotel is not like the bottomless cups of coffee/soda you can get in restaurants. Believe it or not they do sell out
Many Blogstream members are there

And, um, where is this construction? Anywhere near the hotel? LOL!
Jo
I just think Maine needs to drop the "Vacationland" motto and change it to "Construction-land"
Hugs!
Polly
Thanks, Jo!
