 Pride Parade
Back to Full Blog

This past Saturday was the Southern Maine Pride Parade/Festival. Hubby and I decided to go and it was a lot of fun! I was completely impressed and grateful that there were no protestors. This picture was taken at the end of the parade when they marched with the pride flag. This flag is HUGE! I would guess it took at least 100 people to carry it.

Maine is on my list of places I want to visit. Some friends went there last year and brought back beautiful pictures.

Maine is a beautiful state! I honestly dont think I could live anywhere else. If you ever do get the chance to visit let me know and I would be happy to "show you the sites!"

Im not sure how to take that question.

There are a couple ways I could answer that.

I guess I went because I like parades, I have no problems with homosexuality, I know several people that are gay/lesbian and I think a dose of tolerance could help us all.

We had a great time, the weather was beautiful and the parade was very energized. Ghost and I were highly impressed by the Maine Gay Men's chorus as we both agreed we would not be capable of marching and singing on key at the same time

"So it was a real parade with floats, music, etc?"

They had a little of everything- some people showing support, some floats, music, dancing, drag queens, etc

Cool! I always thought it was like a "march" instead of like a regular parade.

Awesome Polly!! We don't attend the gay Pride festivities here only because it is in such a dangerous area where everyday shootings and violence occur. It is a shame because I would really like to march in the gay parade with my Lovie. The drag queens are so great and I love all the things they do for Pride all over the country.

I love the fact that you are supportive. Make me wanna give you a few extra huggles!

This is very nice that there were no protestors. I don't know if that would happen on this "side" of Maine, unfortunately. People fear what they don't understand.

Hope you are enjoying a bit of sun!!!
Cheers! ~MacKenzie

Im sorry that the violence in the area prohibits you from attending. I dont know if my cousin and her partner have ever attended one (their relationship has always been hush-hush). They live in the Cincinnati area and I know that in the last few years the crime and violence in that area has increased

I have some pictures of the drag queens! I will have to post a few for you. There was a contest somewhere before the parade and the winners followed the Grand Marshall in the parade.

I love huggles! Thank you

Huggles back!

Southern Maine is much more accepting and understanding of a variety of "alternative" lifestyles. Did you hear about the group that was protesting at the funerals for the soliders that have died in Maine? These people really make me angry! I was afraid they would show up at the parade/festival and grateful when they did not.

As for sunshine... we had a few brief glimpses of it this week. This weather is just bleh! Hopefully 4th of July weekend will be better! There is nothing like watching the fireworks on the coast!

Huggles!
