Update on my uncle- He is an incredible amount of pain that meds just dont seem to be helping BUT... he finally was able to secure an appointment at MD Anderson in Houston, TX... that is one of the best cancer treatment centers and they are well versed in his particular cancer... the appointment isnt until Dec 9th but knowing that he actually has a date set is helping him... Please keep him in your prayers... I cannot begin to express how much your prayers mean!
Heartwarming News- Its rare when reading the news online, or the local paper, that I find anything other than drug deals, murders, accidents, missing people, burglaries, etc. I dont like reading or watching the news for that very reason. But yesterday I actually found 2 awesome stories in the SAME paper!
The first was about a local man who has been down on his luck for a couple years and is just barely getting by with his disability checks. A few days ago when he left his apartment to go to the local soup kitchen a woman driving an SUV stopped him. She handed him a card and drove off. The card noted that he had been the recipient of a "random act of kindness" and included $20! You know what the man did? He used $15 of the money towards groceries and then walked up to a random stranger on the street and said, "someone was nice to me today and so I am going to be nice to you," then handed the man his last $5! How AWESOME is THAT?!
The next article was about a small town in Maine, Norridgewock. A regular customer at the "What's For Supper" restaurant asked the owner what her plans were for Thanskgiving. She said she would be closing the restaurant for the day and having dinner with family. He asked her if she would be willing to keep the restaurant open to feed people who had no place to go, no family, if he paid for the food.
She spoke with her family and they have all decided to help either cook, waitress or clean and forgo their own Thanksgiving dinner to give others a special day! The customer has put forth enough money to pay for 160 dinners and many others have stepped forward to donate food, supplies and time. Just absolutely AMAZING!! Its heartwarming to know that good people are still out there!
Books- I just finished a couple of really great books. One is, "Made in the USA" by Billie Letts (the author of the book turned movie, "Where the Heart Is") and another is "Christmas Jars" by Jason F Wright. The first book, "Made in the USA," is about a teenage girl and her young brother that set out on their own after the lady caring for them (their father's ex girlfriend) dies suddenly). The girl does not want to go into foster care and so she decides that she will find her long lost father. These 2 kids go through hell. In the end an unexpected kindness breaks through the tough outer shell they have built and of course, they find happiness in a place they never dreamed of. The second book, "Christmas Jars," well that book was a bit harder to read. Its not that the subject is complex, its that I could really empathize with the main character. I read the book in less than an hour and when I was doing I was both crying and smiling. I just love books that can actually wrap you up, take you away and make you feel everything the character feels.
And that's a wrap! Ok, I need to separate myself from this little machine for a bit and get some other things done. I'm trying my best to catch up on the comments ya'll have let for me. Oh, and by the way...
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!
