So, hubby's manager tells him the other day that his driver's license expired on his bday. (the hotel keeps track of anyone's license that is at anytime responsible for driving the hotel shuttle) So, he calls me at work and I go online immediately to renew his license. Nope, no can do. Maine recently adopted the Real ID policy. Both of us have our PO Box listed on our ID's rather than our physical address and because of that we can no longer renew online
So, after running a few errands we headed to the DMV this morning. But, no, it just could not be THAT easy could it? Nope! We were within 1 mile of the DMV when this "Opps, I forgot to wear my sunglasses" moron rear ended us!! We were stopped at a read light and even though she intended to turn right into the parking lot beside us she did not see the red light, nor our car! The more likely reason would be the cell phone that was in her hand! I swear those things were created by Satan himself!
Anyway There is no damage to our car thankfully. My neck/head hurt afterwards but I refused an ambulance. Im not in any great pain right now. BUT... here is the clincher. Hubby decided to be honest and tell the cop he knew his license expired and was enroute to the DMV. What did he get in return? A summons with a nice little $137 fine attached! Which he, of course, plans on contesting. If not for the damn Real ID program (and of course this moron who shouldnt have a license if she cannot see to drive at 9 am!) this would not have happened.
I havent posted in awhille so I thought it might be a good idea to leave something here.
Last week was a living nightmare at work. I cannot believe how many people travel long distances without booking rooms and then throw a temper fit that a toddler would be envious of when I tell them pretty much everyone in the area is sold out. There is a HUGE sign when you cross over into Maine that reads, "Welcome to VACATIONLAND!" Hmmm... I guess that is too confusing. Yes, folks, Maine does get busy in the summer. I just wish people would take the time to research a little about where they are staying.
But the icing on the cake was the man Friday night who decided to talk down to me for going to the bathroom. I cant think of a single chain hotel in the area that has more than one employee working the overnight shift. A few have night security but those hotels are also around $400/night. Anyway, I wasnt feeling so great Friday night. I waited until nearly all the arrivals were checked in, and most of the typical business at the begining of my shift was handled before going to the bathroom. I think I may have been gone 5 minutes tops. When I came back to the front desk 3 people were waiting for me. The first was a lady I had just checked in before I left and she was very appreciative of what I had done to help her. The second was someone who needed a room and when I said we were sold out he thanked me and left. Then there was Sir Grumpy. He DEMANDED to know "where in the hell I was." I told him and he said that he had tried to call the desk 35 times both by hotel phone + cell phone (not even possible in the time I was gone let a lone the fact our phone system wouldnt allow it) and wanted to know what would have happened if he had a heart attack. I told him going to the bathroom was a human need and he asked why I didnt ask someone else to watch the desk. I told him because there is only 1 person on the overnight shift. To which he replied, "That is totally, totally unacceptable and this will be reported." All of this drama because he was waiting for someone else to arrive. He demanded I call his room and the meeting room they had rented when the person arrived and to keep calling until someone answers. Here is the irony of the whole situation. I called, per his request, over and over with NO ANSWER. I tried for at least 10 minutes. His friend ended up leaving a voice mail. This guys wife calls me about an hour later and wants to know how to access the message and what it is all about. I kinda lost my cool and said, "THAT message would be from the person who I was informed to have call you the MINUTE they arrived and because no one answered she left a message."
Please understand that I am not really upset about this. I understand that some people are just idiots, that they can be rude and there is nothing I can do. Im okay with that. I just like to vent now and again. I really think there should be a "Dummies Guide' to staying in a hotel though
The countdown has begun though! We leave Thursday morning for CT. We are dropping our furbabies off at my managers house around 8 am and then taking off. We are so excited!! We will be meeting up with a friend of ours who will be staying at the same hotel with us. That will be fun! So, I wont be around until probably late Sunday night. Im excited about seeing all the costumes at the Anime Con, visiting the Titanic exhibit and enjoying our jacuzzi in our room! Woot!!
I hope ya'll have a great week and and an even better (upcoming) weekend!!
Once again I will leave you with a song. I really love the energy of this song! Here is, "All Summer Long," by Kid Rock.
"Thank you for being a friend Traveled down the road and back again Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.
And if you threw a party Invited everyone you ever knew You would see the biggest gift would be from me And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend."
Sorry I havent been around much. When I get home I just have no energy or desire to be online and when Im at work its so crazy busy that I dont have time be online . Summer season is certainly in full swing for those of us in the hospitality/tourism field.
Polar asked on her Friday questions if anyone has any pet peeves. Well, the state of Maine just hit a nerve with me this week! Ok, so this is the state known as "vacationland." Right now my brain is on overload so forgive me if I cannot quote accurately- but tourism I believe is this state's largest source of income. So, in light of the gas price problem, can someone please explain to me WHY the Maine Turnpike Authority has decided to start MAJOR construstion on LARGE portions of BOTH I-95 and 295?!?!!
The good news...
Hubby and I went to see a fireworks display last weekend in Scarborough, ME for their 350th Anniversary Celebration. What an awesome display! I actually got some really cool pics and when I permitted a moment of time I will try to post some Oh, and in 2 weeks hubby and I leave for a 4 day get-a-way in CT with one of our friends. We will be attending the anime convention, going to see the Titanic exhibit and to see the Carosel Museum. So, good times are still to come
I have to run for now but I will leave you with a song. I dont really like the artist anymore but the lyrics are good and a good reminder. So, here is Carrie Underwood with "So Small." (I actually like this video more than the one she made!)
